RAMADAN
Importance, April 19, 2020
Ramadan expected to start on April 24th subject to the sighting of the moon, Muslims are preparing for the holy month in extraordinary circumstances. This year the month will coincide with the coronavirus pandemic, which has left millions infected globally, and tens of thousands of people dead. This will likely have an impact on communal activities, such as families iftars and communal prayers, as people stay at home during lockdowns .
Muslims believe that the Angel Gabriel descended from heaven to reveal God’s message to the Prophet Muhammad in Ramadan. These revelations came to form the establishing text of the Islamic faith, called the Quran, which Muslims hold to be the unaltered and final testament of God. The precise night of the revelation is subject to debate among Islamic scholars, but is believed to be one of the odd numbered dates during the last ten days of the month. Many prefer to mark the occasion on the 27th night, which they call ‘Laylat ul Qadr’ or ‘The Night of Destiny'.
WHAT RAMADAN TEACHES US??
Ramadan Teachings, April 20, 2020
Ramadan The month of rahmah (blessing), barakah (mercy), and magfirah (forgiving) is upon us
This blessed month is a precious gift from Allah SWT to Muslims. But do we know exactly why this month is so special to Muslims? What exactly is the purpose of this month, and all the blessings associated with it? What are the lessons we are supposed to take away in observing the sanctity of this month? Of course, this blessed month exists to train us, to guide us, and to remind us of how we should approach the remaining 11 months of the year. Ramadan imparts upon us numerous lessons: How to develop our manners and moral fortitude, how to treat our fellow human beings with respect, how to strengthen our brotherhood, how to maintain unity among the Muslim community, and how to be welcoming to all the non-Muslims who share this land with us. The month also teaches us to be more pious, disciplined, and how to maintain self-control, while shielding our souls from greed and immorality. But, most importantly, the month teaches us how we can improve our connection with the Almighty. The month of Ramadan also instils a sense of empathy within us. It allows us to understand the situation of the less fortunate, to feel and experience the pain of hunger and the pangs of thirst that our poverty-stricken brothers and sisters -- who are often forced to go without food and drink -- feel every waking day.
RAMADAN:A PILLAR OF ISLAM
Five Pillars Of Islam, April 20, 2020
Ramadan The fourth pillar of islam.
Ramadan is very important to the Muslim faith. It is the fourth "pillar" of the five pillars of Muslim religious obligation. In addition to fasting, Muslims pray more often, read the Qur'an (holy text), and give to charity. Because this is a unique time, many Muslims prepare special food. According to TheHolidaySpot.com, at sundown each day fasting is broken with sweet dates and water or an apricot drink. Following this is a traditional soup, such as lentil, and a bread and greens salad like fattoush. There are no restrictions with the main meal: "Olives, cheeses, meats, everything goes.
Message For All :
The most important message of Ramadan is that we are not just body. We are body and soul. And that what makes us human beings and that determines our value as human beings is the soul and not the body. During Ramadan we deprive the body to uplift the soul. This is all simple and familiar. But we can understand its significance if we remember that the message of the materialistic hedonistic global pop culture that has engulfed every Muslim land today — just like the rest of the world— is exactly the opposite. It says that body is everything. That the materialistic world is all that counts. That the greatest happiness — if not virtue– is in filling the appetites of the body. This message produces endless appetites and consequently endless wars to fill those endless appetites through endless exploitation. It produces endless frustrations since the gap between desires and achievements can never be filled. It produces endless chaos and endless oppression. Yet this trash comes in such beautiful and enticing packages that we can hardly resist it. We equate this slavery with freedom. We consider this march to disaster as progress. And with every movement, we get further and deeper into the mire.
